In the past century, the concentration of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere has sharply increased due to our rapid exploitation of fossil fuels. This has most likely lead to human-induced climate change. The latter will be one of the greatest challenges of the 21st century. Scientists agree that a reduction in global carbon emissions of 60% or more is needed within the next 30 to 40 years to stabilize global warming at levels which do not threaten the stability of our economic, social and environmental systems. 1. Strategic policy advice
Ecorys’ strategic policy advice in the field of climate change is most relevant for governmental players, international organizations and NGOs. It includes policy development and evaluation, capacity building and training, and in particular advice with regards to carbon emissions trading and the flexible mechanisms of the Kyoto Protocol.

3. Greenhouse gas reduction project development support
Ecorys takes on an advisory role with projects that might qualify for the flexible mechanisms of the Kyoto Protocol and acts as an in-between for project developers and investors.

• Portfolio scan: commercial viability assessment of using the client’s (potential project developer) existing assets to create a carbon credit project for the regulated or the voluntary carbon market;
• Project development support: guiding the project through the complex UN regulatory process or the voluntary carbon market guidelines;
• Carbon credit marketing: acting as an in-between connecting buyers and sellers of carbon credits.
