Ecorys supports Serbia with regional-economic development PDF Print E-mail

Picture of Serbian village11 October 2010 - Press Release - Research and consultancy company Ecorys will support the Serbian government with the development of a new national policy directed at regional-economic development. Ecorys has recently acquired an assignment with a value of € 1.8 million issued by the EU Delegation in Belgrade.

The EU supports Serbia in its preparations for possible future accession to the European Union. A new national policy aimed at the economic development of all Serbian regions (developed as well as less developed regions) would be an important contribution to this aspiration.

Ecorys will advise and support the Serbian government (and most notably the Ministry of Economy and Regional Development) in designing economic development programmes and the development of knowledge, capacity and instruments to execute these economic programmes. Amongst other things Ecorys will address the improvement of the collaboration between the various Serbian ministries, matching national and regional policies and will advise on the optimal spending of available budgets. Ecorys has extensive expertise in the area of regional-economic development and has carried out similar projects in amongst others Kosovo, Albania and Croatia. Furthermore, the project connects with the recently finalized EU project by Ecorys aimed at strengthening small and medium enterprises (SME’s)  in Serbia.

The project in Serbia will start at the end of October 2010 and has an expected timeline of 30 months. For this assignment Ecorys will lead an international consortium including experts from Ireland, Italy, and Serbia. Ecorys’ staff member Sjaak Boeckhout will manage and lead the team of international and local experts in implementing this assignment from Belgrade.
