Europe launches first Galileo satellites PDF Print E-mail

Picture of satellite grid in space21 October 2011 – Europe kicked off its biggest space project Galileo on 21 October with the launch of two satellites from the European base Kourou in French Guinea. The launch of the satellites is a major step in the Galileo project. Galileo is set up to provide a European alternative to the American GPS system and should be operational in 2014.

The consortium studied the legal and market aspects of Galileo. Ecorys took part in the ‘market and economy’ part of the project and evaluated the social benefits of Galileo. For this we studied the application of various modalities, like road and air transport. Currently Ecorys is studying how the competitiveness of the European Galileo and GPS industry can be strengthened.
