Institutional strengthening for implementation of the WFD and ICZM recommendations along the Romanian Black Sea coast, 2006-2008

This project concerns the strengthening of the Romanian institutional framework related to Integrated Coastal Zone Management, following the European Recommendation on ICZM and the Water Framework Directive.The project aims to assist Romania in the implementation of the Water Framework Directive (2000/60/EC) and the recommendations regarding Integrated Coastal Zone Management.

The main project results are:

• Agreement on the prioritised work plan for the National ICZM Strategy;
• Scenario's for a number of sectoral plan(s) developed;
• Procedures developed and agreed upon with regard to the tasks and responsibilities of the National ICZM Committee, the working groups, the ICZM-Secretariat and the Ministry of Environment and Water Management;
• Strengthened competencies and skills of the ICZM Secretariat;
• Increased awareness of and insight in the Water Framework Directive and ICZM among relevant authorities.
