Review of financing an policy advice re. Dutch contribution to Millennium Targets for Water, Sanitation and Energy

The Dutch Government expressed its commitment to contribute to the 7th Millenium Development Goal (MDG) by providing 50 million people with sustainable access to safe drinking water and basic sanitation by 2015. In addition 5 million people are to be provided with access to cooking facilities and/or electricity. ECORYS was asked by the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs (DGIS) to identify a method for assessing the actual achievements of Dutch development co-operation in this regard. Based on this method ECORYS provided the first assessment of the number of persons that gained access to drinking water, sanitation, cooking facilities and electricity through multilateral development assistance (including activities of private parties, Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) and International Financial Institutions (IFIs).
