The wider objective of this project is to support Turkey with the implementation of the acquis, particularly the Groundwater Directive (GWD) and the Water Framework Directive (WFD). This project includes training and capacity building in the use of technical and economic tools as specified in the Water Framework Directive, by concentrating on the actual ground water situation in the Kucuk Menderes River Basin District. ECORYS has provided institutional and economic training. To improve the institutional structure for groundwater management in Turkey. A institutional working group was formed where ECORYS experts provided guidance and advise on the group’s work. The working group consisted of staff of the Ministry of Environment and Forestry, the state water agency (DSI) and staff of their respective regional offices. Economic training was provided in two separate workshops mainly dealing with the issue of cost recovery of (ground)water services. The workshops were provided to approximately 20 persons at a time.
