The aim of the European Union is to half the number of road fatalities in 2010, as compared to 2001. To achieve this new technology is needed, as well as a focused and efficient European transport policy. Public administrators need to assess policy measures and their effects in relation to spatial and economic interests.

Furthermore, security is a high priority as trucks, trains and airplanes are increasingly targeted by criminals.
 
Real, sustainable improvements of traffic safety and security are not achieved by incidental measures. A safer and more secure transport system requires a well thought-out approach, in which the human factor, the vehicle and the infrastructure are considered in relation to each other. Through intensive interaction, solutions are worked out by ECORYS on the basis of thorough investigation and detailed analysis, with alertness to future trends and directions.
